First United Methodist Church of Bedford is a church where ministry matters and thinking outside of the box is valued. We want to reach others and show them how much God truly loves them. Through a variety of programs and activities, our goal is to engage with others to make a difference in our own community and beyond.
We believe in one God, Creator of all things seen and unseen. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, God’s only Son, who died for our sins. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, who lives and works through us. In other words, we believe in the Trinity: God the Father/Creator, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe that humans are made in the image of God. We believe that we are to love God above all other things. Putting God first, we are also to love others, ourselves, and all of creation. We believe that the best way to accomplish this goal is to go out and spread the Good News and serve as the hands and feet of Christ in this world.
As a congregation, we hold diverse views on multiple topics and use the principles of Christian Conferencing to show respect and understanding as we work through challenging topics. We encourage questions and discussion as we learn and grow in our faith.
United Methodists share a common heritage with all Christians. According to our foundational statement of beliefs in The United Methodist Book of Discipline, we share the following basic affirmations in common with all Christian communities:
